WORK is about to kick off at the state-of-the-art Monbulk Regional Soccer Facility.
The $9.8 million project at Old Emerald Road in Monbulk will include two synthetic, full-sized pitches, a pavilion with change rooms, toilets and clubrooms, as well as car parking and road improvements.
Once complete, the facility will cater for more than 600 players at the Monbulk Rangers Soccer Club and support the fast-growing sport.
The FIFA star-rated, all-weather pitches will ensure the facility can cater for all levels of the sport, from junior to senior competitions.
Council has been working with the club to design a facility that is sensitive to its natural surrounds.
Yarra Ranges Shire mayor Maria McCarthy said council was excited to see work starting on this long-awaited project.
“Soccer is an extremely popular sport and this facility is much-needed,” Cr McCarthy said.
“Council is proud, together with the federal and state governments, to fund this state-of-the-art project.”
Cr Jason Callanan said the council and community had worked hard to get the project to this stage.
“We eagerly anticipate the construction of the Monbulk Regional Soccer Facility and know it will provide a major boost for sport in the region,” Cr Callanan said.
Yarra Ranges has provided $7.15 million funding to the project, with the Federal Government adding $2 million, with Sport and Recreation Victoria kicking in $650,000.
Work will begin on 13 April.
The work is expected to be complete by the end of next year.
