VICTORIAN Education Minister James Merlino last Tuesday visited Monbulk College to speak with secondary students who are sharing their ideas to make Victoria the Education State.
The students spoke about what could be done to make sure young people were getting the skills they needed for the jobs they wanted.
The two-month Education State consultation is now underway, with sessions running throughout the state seeking the views of students, parents, carers, teachers, principals, school council members, businesses and community groups.
Mr Merlino was delighted with the students’ response at Monbulk.
“The students’ views were incisive, honest, interesting and challenging; telling me what’s good and what they think needs to change about education in Victoria,” he said.
He encouraged all students to speak up.
“To make Victoria the Education State, we need to hear from all Victorians who care about our education system, including those who rely on it most, our students,” he said.
In the first months of consultation, there have been more than 6000 website visits, 300 online contributions and 1000 downloads of the consultation paper.
All Victorians with a passion for education are encouraged to join in coming sessions around the state.
