THE Emerald and District Lions Club earlier this month presented the Emerald SES with a cheque for $1000, raised from the ‘Grow it, Bake it, Make it’ market at the town’s hall.
The funds will go towards the purchase of a much-needed new vehicle for the unit.
President of the local Lions club, Terry Swalwell, said it was worth noting there were few unit members present at the handover, because they were assisting the community.
“They were out in the atrocious weather conditions, helping other members of the community,” he said.
“That underlines the importance of the SES to our community and we salute their dedication and sense of service.”
The SES is in need of further equipment, as well as a new building to house vehicles, equipment and communications systems.
The unit covers a wide area, from Gembrook to Mount Dandenong, and from Upper Beaconsfield to Launching Place.
Mr Swalwell said the Lions would be looking at other ways they could offer assistance to the unit.
