MONBULK MP and Education Minister James Merlino has wished VCE students luck in tomorrow’s English exams and reminded students to seek help when feeling overwhelmed.

Mr Merlino, in a statement sent out on Tuesday 27 October, wished students “every success” in the Wednesday 28 October VCE English exam, which will be sat by 43,294 students.

He said that students experiencing anxiety about their exams should seek help from their teachers, families and friends, as well as making use of resources such as those at Headspace.

“During VCE exam time, students should make sure to stay connected with those who support them, and to talk to friends, family and teachers about any concerns they may have,” Mr Merlino said.

Tips provided by Mr Merlino for students preparing for their exams included making a study plan with activity breaks, establishing a routine around meals, exercise and sleeping, and staying focused by limiting distractions – including parties.

Though exams impact students’ ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) score, Mr Merlino said students should not “lose sight” of their future in the middle of exam stress.

“Life is a marathon, not a sprint,” he said.

“There is a life after Year 12 and there are many roads to future careers and further study.

“Students should always remember that exams aren’t trying to trick you, to do well you simply need to demonstrate what you know.”
