THE Dandenong Ranges as a renowned tourist destination has been acknowledged by the makers of the internationally popular board game, Monopoly.
In the first official Melbourne version of the game – released on Tuesday, 10 November – the light blue-coloured properties boast some of the metro regions’ best tourist destinations, the Great Ocean Road, Dandenong Ranges and the Eureka Skydeck.
Located on the board adjacent to the jail, the light blue properties are traditionally middle-of-the-range in price, featuring the handy acquisitions of Angel Islington, Euston Road and Pentonville Road.
Meanwhile, the MCG scooped the coveted Mayfair spot, with Federation Square landing Park Lane.
Also in the Melbourne release, players pay $M15 for being stuck on the Monash Freeway.
On a more positive note, players can take a road trip to the Twelve Apostles, allowing a collection of $M10 from every player.
The special edition will also feature Melbourne-themed tokens, including a tram, a take away coffee cup, Phar Lap, Sherrin AFL football and a graffiti spray can.
Monopoly first hit shop shelves in the US in circa 1935.
The game is now played in 111 countries and enjoyed in 43 different languages.
