Schools, community pay tribute

THE Mount Evelyn community turned out in force for the Remembrance Day ceremony last Wednesday, 11 November.
An estimated 400 people attended the local cenotaph to commemorate the end of World War I.
Present were representatives from Mount Evelyn Primary School, St Mary’s Catholic School, Birmingham Primary School and Yarra Hills Secondary College.
Mount Evelyn Combined School, led by Angela Glennie, sang ‘In Flanders Fields’ and the national anthem.
Brianna Moore and James Rhodes of St Mary’s Primary School recited the poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’.
Guest speaker for the ceremony was Afghanistan veteran, Ben Gorfine.
Owen Forrest and Keely Preston of Yarra Hills Secondary College read out the list of the Mount Evelyn Fallen.
Meanwhile, four more name plaques were unveiled afterwards at the Mount Evelyn RSL, with names of RSL members who had past away in the last year.
