MONBULK police officers Sgt Mark Knight and Ken Tromp found more than they had bargained for when executing a failed-to- appear warrant on Saturday 28 November.
The officers approached a house in The Basin to execute the warrant when they found cannabis plants hanging from the ceiling, 14 jars of dried cannabis, two hydroponic grow houses and 42 cannabis plants in the backyard.
A 41-year-old man was charged with trafficking and cultivation and possession of a drug of dependence and bailed to appear in Ringwood Magistrates’ court on 7 January 2016.
Another 21-year-old man from Tarneit was also charged on the property with possession of amphetamines.
String of charges
A COCKATOO man, 39, has been arrested in Monbulk after being found in possession of stolen jewellery.
The man was arrested by Leading Senior Constable Peter Edyvane in the Monbulk Main Street on Friday 27 November and charged with a range of offences.
Charges include possession of stolen jewellery, theft of a motor car, handling and receipt of stolen goods, and traffic and possession and use of amphetamine and cannabis.
The man has been charged and bailed to appear in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 21 August 2016.
Jewellers raided
POLICE are searching for witnesses after two men allegedly robbed Monbulk Jewellers over the weekend, making off with thousands of dollars worth of gold.
Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Sergeant Pat Barrow said that between 2.50am and 3.10am on Sunday 22 November, two men are believed to have jemmied open the front door of Monbulk Jewellers in Main Street, Monbulk.
“They’ve gone inside the jewellers … and stolen $10,500 worth of gold chains and a ring,” Det Sgt Barrow said.
The ring is described as an Argyle diamond ring, and Det Sgt Barrow said that CCTV footage showed two men inside the store at the time of the robbery.
He said the items were taken from behind the front counter.

Power tools stolen
A HOUSE under construction in Gembrook has had about $15,000 worth of power tools stolen from a shed.
The two and a half acre property on Mountain Road was burgled between 3pm on 23 November and 6.30am on 24 November.
Unknown persons forced open the front door of the shed and gained entry to the structure where they made off with the power tools.

Express iPad vanishes
POLICE are searching for a man in his forties who allegedly stole an iPad from Belgrave’s Sushi Express last week.
Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Sergeant Pat Barrow said that between 12.30am and 1am on Monday 23 November, a man was seen in the Burwood Highway shop by the shop’s owner.
The man left the store after being confronted by the owner, who then realised an iPad had been stolen.
Det Sgt Barrow said the man was described as possibly in his forties, with a thin build, short, black and grey hair, and a “weathered” look.
He was wearing dark jeans and a dark jacket.

Nursery broken into
A NOT-FOR-PROFIT nursery in Mount Evelyn was broken into and robbed last week, with thieves making off with power tools and police calling for witnesses.
Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Sergeant Pat Barrow said that between 6pm on 23 November and 6am on 24 November, unknown persons forced a front door to a tool shed at the York Road nursery.
A whipper snipper and a welder, with a value of about $1800, were stolen in the incident, and Det Sgt Barrow said the nursery was a wholesale, not-for-profit business.
