YARRA Ranges residents are being invited to have their say about proposed changes to planned burning and fuel management in the region.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) said the changes relate to areas around Gembrook, Powelltown, Healesville and the surrounding areas.
Forest Fire Management Victoria Regional Manager, Peter West, said recent modelling has guided proposed amendments to the way areas are zoned for fuel management.
“Strategic planning and fire simulation modelling for this area has highlighted areas where changes to when and where we do planned burns would significantly reduce the fire risk and increase community safety,” Mr West said.
“By amending the way some areas are zoned for fuel management purposes, we are modifying the primary reason to conducted planned burns in that area.”
The events will be held at Gembrook Community Centre on Saturday, 17 September, from 10am to 1pm.
Also, at the Woori Yallock Parks Victoria office on Tuesday, 20 September, from 5pm to 8pm.
