A mum’s footy match raised $14,000 for a grieving Upwey family.

The Belly-Up Cup on Friday 13 July paid tribute to Leanne Gorry, who died late last month following a long battle with cancer.

The mums of the Upwey-Tecoma and Belgrave juniors faced off at Belgrave Recreation Reserve in what was “a fabulous night”.

Kylie Orr, one of the organisers, said the final fund-raising tally was still being calculated but praised “a phenomenal effort and a grand atmosphere”.

“I think the mums and the crowd had an amazing night and the party continued well into the morning,” she said.

She kicked one of the Upwey side’s two goals.

Leanne’s husband, Dale, and three children, Emma, Ben and Adam, were involved on the night.

The money raised will support them.

The clubs hope to make the match an annual event, to raise cash for different causes.
