The RSPCA rescued a sheep with electrical tape wound around its muzzle on a Macclesfield property.

Inspectors are appealing for information after responding to a report about the stray Suffolk ewe from a local resident on 12 July.

Inspector Michelle Green said the ewe’s muzzle was swollen and the tape was restricting her nasal passages and stopping her from breathing properly.

“The ewe was contained and taken to a local veterinary clinic, where she was examined for immediate health risks,” she said.

“She was foaming from the mouth and nasal passages, rendering her unable to breathe properly.”

The ewe’s vital signs returned to normal after the electrical tape was safely removed, and she was transported to RSPCA Pearcedale for care.

“The sheep had no identification tag or other identifiers, so we’re hoping anybody with information about her history or her background can come forward and help us with our investigation,” Insp Green said.

It is an offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 (POCTAA) to cause unreasonable pain or suffering to an animal.

Anyone found guilty of such an act can face fines up to $40,297.50 or 12 months’ imprisonment.

Call RSPCA Victoria on 9224 2222 or visit rspcavic.org with information about this case or to raise concerns for an animal’s welfare.
