Applications for Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee open

Applications to join Cardinia Shire Council’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee are now open to the public.

Gembrook and Emerald residents who have a lived experience with disability, as a carer or a support person are encouraged to apply to join the advisory committee.

Representatives of community groups and disability organisations are also encouraged to apply.

“The committee provides a forum for Cardinia Shire residents, businesses and community groups representing the interests of people with disability in our area,” Cardinia Council said.

“The committee is responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and supporting council’s access and inclusion disability strategy and action plan.”

Meetings are held every two months, on each third Wednesday of alternate months at 10am to 12pm.

An informal interview with be held with selected applicants.

The role includes providing information and timely advice to council on issues impacting people with a disability which prevent full involvement and inclusion in community life.

“Committee members act as ambassadors for the disability community through advocacy, promoting information, training, activities, and issues relating to disability in Cardinia Shire as well as provide advice on council’s building and facilities access upgrade program of works and budget.” council said.

Details of the application process can be found at cardinia.vic.gov.au/accessandinclusion or by calling the Access and Inclusion Team on 1300 787 624.
