Bayswater MP Jackson Taylor has called for a renewed push for the installation of a fully signalled set of lights on the McMahons Road and Burwood Highway intersection.

Mr Taylor said he launched a campaign asking residents to sign a petition to be presented to the Minister for Roads Ben Carroll.

“This is something that has been talked about by many people for a long time,” Mr Taylor said.

“In my mind, it’s time we got this done. But to get this done, I’m just one person.”

Liberal Ferntree Gully MP Nick Wakeling called for the State Government to resolve issues with the “dangerous intersection” in State Parliament in 2018, with installing traffic lights at the intersection being an election promise from the Liberal opposition.

“The issue I wish to raise on behalf of residents in the Ferntree Gully electorate is the dangerous intersection of McMahons Road and Clyde Road on Burwood Highway in Ferntree Gully,” he said.

“We are looking for a long-term solution. On behalf of Ferntree Gully residents, I raised this issue with the Minister for Roads back on 9 June, 2016,

“At that point in time, I called on the Minister to take action in regards to the intersection and provide advice to my community as to whether the government would build traffic lights at this important intersection.”

Mr Taylor said he would push for the traffic lights to be installed.

“Like any campaign, I can’t promise anything, but with your support and the support of our community I will fight tooth and nail like every other matter I’ve got behind,” he said.

“Support my campaign to make this intersection here —McMahons Road and Burwood Highway —safer for everyone with traffic lights.”
