The scaffolding is down and the exterior of the new multipurpose facility at Fairpark Reserve is complete. Now work is underway on the facility’s interior and southern carpark.

This new building will be home to U3A, Johnson Park Cricket Club, Fairpark Football Club, and the Fairpark Netball Club.

The construction of the building and southern carpark works are expected to be completed by October 2023. The demolition of the existing pavilion, cricket nets, and extension of the northern carpark will take place during October and November 2023.

The total project cost will be $10.6M, after the Australian Government contributed $3M towards this new facility as part of its Community Development Fund program, and the 4 clubs have also contributed $60K towards the upgrade as part of the grant requirements.

Grants from Cricket Australia and AFL Victoria have also been contributed totalling a further $160K towards the project.

Knox City Council has also contributed $7.5M for this project, including the multipurpose community facility, an upgrade to the netball court, car parking expansion, landscaping, and installation of a public art piece.

The design of the new community facility has been developed through extensive consultation with the key club stakeholders, to ensure they get the best facility to suit their needs.

This project is part of the delivery of the Masterplan for Fairpark Reserve which has included the daylighting of the creek and the upgrade to the playground which were both completed in 2019.

Council’s place-centric approach to the Fairpark project has meant that the other upgrades and improvements to the reserve have been coordinated around the main project.
