From fighting fires around the state to protecting locals back at home, emergency services are urging locals to be prepared.
Vic Emergency have released several warnings across the Hills due to riverine flood risks in the area.
The Yarra River catchment has recorded rainfall averaging 24 mm in the upper part of the catchment and 10 mm in the lower part of the catchment since 9am on Wednesday 4 October, with further rainfall expected later in the week.
Water levels of the Yarra River at various locations are rising in response to the rain.
Those residing in Cockatoo and Emerald areas, Kallista and the Patch and Monbulk, along with those further up into the Hills including Hoddles Creek, Lilydale, Woori Yallock and up to Toolang have been issued a ‘Watch and Act’ alert, as of 11pm on Thursday 5 October.
Meanwhile, Cardinia residents east of Pakenham towards Drouin are being advised to stay alert in case of further warnings.
Vic Emergency reports state flooding above floor level of a single-story home is likely to occur in some locations.
Moderate flooding in the Yarra/Watts River catchment is expected to cause substantial inundation in the rural and/or urban areas, and disruption to traffic.
Melba Highway at Yarra Glen is expected to be impacted by floodwaters.

Vic Emergency are advising locals to be aware when travelling in affected areas, and keep an eye on updates regularly.
