MEMBERS of the Olinda Ferny Creek Football Netball Club will head to Vanuatu on a volunteering trip.
The group of 42 football and netball players, trainers, coaches and support staff will stay for eight days to conduct clinics at schools, and help upgrade facilities such as paint lines on courts.
Club president Helen Wositzky said the club was very proud to contribute to the growth of the sports and assist in providing a positive sporting experience to youths in Vanuatu.
“A lasting legacy will be left by Olinda Ferny Creek visiting schools and local clubs, running clinics, promoting women in sport, helping upgrade football fields and netball facilities and providing much needed sporting equipment,” she said.
“Olinda Ferny Creek Football Netball Club is not just about playing sport but as importantly our mission includes providing personal development opportunities for our players and instilling a culture of respect and giving back to the broader community.”
The players will also get the chance to play against Vanuatu football and netball teams, including the Vanuatu Volcanoes, the national football team.
The players have been busy planning for the trip, collecting donations of equipment to take with them and seeking sponsors before they leave on 28 September.
Anyone looking to help out the club can contact Ms Wositzky on 0419 528 918.
