CALLING all budding firefighters – Upwey Fire Brigade is giving those a little too young to join the CFA a chance to become a honorary firefighter.
It’s all part of the station’s CFA Open Day held on Sunday 24 November between 10am and 3pm youngsters can work their way through a number of tests before being presented with a honorary firefighting certificate.
Kids will need to learn and show that they can stop, drop and roll and even learn how to use the fire hose.
Captain Paul Mather said the day was a great opportunity for the community to come into the station and learn about what the guys and girls on the big red trucks get up to.
“It’s a great opportunity to get the community to come in and see what it’s all about – it’s also a chance for residents to get advice about their fire plans,” he said.
“We’ll have all the information that is current and up to date in the lead-up to the fire season.
“Plus it’s a great way for the kids to get involved – we’ll have all the trucks here too.”
