Library doors open

MOUNT Evelyn’s library will continue to operate despite the closure of Morrisons.
The management of the library was recently taken over by Morrisons, and is based at the Station House Reading Room.
A spokesperson for Yarra Ranges Council said the council had negotiated with the Eastern Regional Libraries (ERL) to provide a staff member for three hours a day to keep the library operating.
Story time sessions will not be affected by the changes, and will continue to run as normal.
The council is also working to maintain a neighbourhood house presence at the Station House.
There are many questions about the future of other services offered to the community and how they will be affected, including childhood services and the café.
In a fact sheet provided by the council, staff are exploring options for the café to operate in the future – including the possibility of an Expressions of Interest process.
The fact sheet also states that negotiations are underway for a local provider to provide long day, occasional and vacation care.
Changes are not expected to come into operation until 30 April.
