WINTER came early in the Yarra Ranges and surrounds last week, when a blisteringly cold day brought forth a sprinkling of snow.
Cold weather on Tuesday and Wednesday left the upper regions around the valley, such as the forests around Toolangi, Marysville’s Lake Mountain and Mount Donna Buang, coated in snow.
Mount St Leonard was snow-capped on the day, while Mount Donna Buang had about 10 centimetres of snow by Thursday 14 May, according to www.warburtoninfo.com.
Unfortunately, the snow was not expected to last through the weekend on Mount Donna Buang, but more cold spells heading into winter will see it return soon enough.
Snow and sleet was also reported in areas around the Dandenong Ranges.
Drivers are warned to be careful when driving in snowy and icy conditions, as areas can experience black ice and may not be suitable for non-4WDs at times.
